MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - The National Weather Service in Memphis confirms late Thursday a brief tornado touchdown in Monroe County on Wednesday night.
After conducting damage surveys, officials confirm that the tornado was on the ground for about 200 yards and was about 25 yards wide.
WTVA Chief Meteorologist Matt Laubhan says that due to the tornadoes small size, and short path, it may have only been on the ground for 10-20 seconds. Matt says that this can make it difficult to detect by doppler radar.
NWS officials say the area was near Sipsey Fork area of Monroe County.
They have classified the storm as an EF-0 tornado with winds to near 85 miles an hour.
