JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- A Jackson man convicted for a machete attack on the mother of his young daughter has filed an appeal with the Mississippi Supreme Court.
The case is among dozens the Supreme Court will take up in its January-February term. The court has not scheduled oral arguments in the case.
Jermaine Reed was convicted in Hinds County in 2011 of aggravated assault in the 2008 attack on his ex-girlfriend Andrea Taylor.
Circuit Judge Bill Gowan agreed to a prosecution motion to amend Reed's indictment to certify him as a habitual offender because Reed had at least two previous convictions, including one for bank robbery in federal court.
Gowan sentenced Reed to life in prison without parole.
