TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Tupelo City Council voted Tuesday night to take millions of dollars out of the city's rainy day fund.
Council members agreed to use $2.3 million to revitalize the West Jackson Street area.
It includes the purchase of an apartment complext at 1103 West Jackson.
Councilman Jim Newell voted against the move, but others on the council hope demolishing the apartments will lead to that area being revitalized by attracting investors and homeowners.
Also, the council unanimously voted to loan the Major Thoroughfare Program $3 million to cover its contracts.
The program plans to pay the amount back through tax revenues it receives.
And, some streets recommended by the Public Works Department will get an overlay.
