TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Tupelo Mayor Jack Reed, Jr. has vetoed a measure to allow Carlock Toyota a variance in the cities sign ordinance.
City council members on Tuesday overturned a decision by the planning commission to allow the dealership to put up a sign larger than city regulations allow.
The council voted 4 to 3 to allow the variance.
In his veto message, Mayor Reed says the issue is one of fairness and allowing the variance is not fair to other businesses in the area.
He says it is the first time he has used his veto power while serving in mayor.
