TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA)-- Some local teenagers are using their love for music to pay homage to recording artists of old.
They travel throughout the area singing "old juke box tunes" that uplift, inspire, and encourage the young and old a like.
They are not your typical teenage singing group.
The music they sing precedes them.
But that hasn't stopped Margarette, Anna and Martha, known as "Yes Mam", from hitting the stage singing iconic tunes of the 40's and 50's.
"We really like old music," said Margaret Chunn.
The girls selected the group name based on the first initial of their names.
The trio has been singing for over two years now.
But they admit it hasn't always been easy.
"At our first talent show they [the audience] said what kind of costumes are they wearing. They didn't really understand," said Anna Blassingame.
But, when the girls belted out their first musical note, all of the crowd's misunderstanding flew out of the window.
"I think it's good the younger generation is getting to hear some of the classics," said Martha Chunn.
While competing is fun, they said, they receive their greatest joy singing at different fundraisers and nursing homes.
The group says it learned about the "oldies but goodies" through old movies and a modern day phenomenon "YouTube".
The girls said they hope their music will inspire more teenagers to fall in love with the classics.
