Man wanted for murder surrenders to authorities

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Columbus police say a man wanted for murder has turned himself in.

Derrick D. Nelson, 19, of Columbus surrendered to Police Chief Selvain McQueen around 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Police say Nelson faces charges in the shooting death of Willie Hood, Jr., 29, around 1:30 Saturday morning.

The shooting happened at Nelson's residence on Pine Street in Columbus.

Nelson is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center psnding an initial appearance in court.
