TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Tupelo man has pleaded guilty to felony child abuse charges in the beating of a 10-month old child.
Jimmy Whitfield, 29, entered the plea in Lee County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Whitfield was arrested in January of 2011 after the child was treated at a Memphis hospital for injuries to its head.
Authorities at the time called it one of the most severe cases of child abuse they had investigated.
Following his admission of guilt, Whitfield was sentenced to five years in prison and five years probation.
He was also ordered to reimburse Lebonheur Children's Medical Center $18,000.
