TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The former owner of a Prentiss County funeral home has pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement.

A spokesperson with the Mississippi Attorney General's Office says Michael Salts, 62, entered the plea Monday in Lee County Circuit Court.

Salts was indicted in 2003 on charges he took money to pay premiums on pre-paid burial policies for clients but never forwarded the money to the insurance company.

He was convicted in October of 2005 of three counts each of felony embezzlement and one count each of misdemeanor embezzlement and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

A federal appeals court in March of this year through out the conviction and sentence and ordered a new trial.

Salts was sentenced to serve four years on one count and one year on the second count, with the sentence to run concurrently.
