GUNTOWN, Miss. (WTVA) — A man is being held in the Lee County Adult Detention Center after a multi-vehicle accident Wednesday on Highway 45.

38-year-old Philip Hobgood of Booneville has not been charged, but police are trying to determine if he deliberately caused the accident.

Police Chief Michael Hall says he may know by Thursday night if Hobgood will be charged.

According to the chief, Hobgood was driving a pickup south when it struck another southbound vehicle sometime before 5 p.m.

One eyewitness says he saw the truck force the vehicle off the road.

The chief says the vehicle flipped across the median and struck a sport utility vehicle heading north.

Hobgood was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo along with 76-year-old Henry Fanning, who was in the vehicle that flipped.

A woman with Fanning was flown to the hospital for treatment.

The accident closed the northbound side of Highway 45 until about 6:30 p.m.
