COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Columbus man is behind bars after he ran from authorities during a traffic stop.
The Lowndes County Metro Narcotics Unit says Jeffrey Barker, 31, was arrested Wednesday.
They say deputies attempted to stop Barker on a traffic violation at the intersection of Highway 45 and Highway 373, but he fled in an SUV.
Deputies say they caught up with Barker at a convenience store on Highway 373 and Highway 50, and this time he ran from deputies on foot.
A motorist spotted Barker near the area where the chase originally began and notified authorities.
Deputies recovered nearly $2,400 from Barker and say it was coated with cocaine flakes.
He is charged with felony eluding law enforcement and possession of cocaine.
