JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The National Weather Service said three tornadoes touched down during the Sunday storms that left widespread damage in parts of south Mississippi.
An EF-1 tornado struck Lawrence County along with the EF-3 twister in Marion County and the EF-4 tornado in Lamar/Forrest counties.
Hattiesburg is in Lamar and Forrest counties.
Meanwhile, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said at least 800 homes were destroyed or experienced major damage from the severe weather.
Forrest County had 338 homes with major damage and 192 homes destroyed.
Lamar County had 194 homes with major damage and 58 homes destroyed.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, only 350 customers in the storm-damaged areas were still without power.
