TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Some local students are back in town, bringing with them national honors.

Several Tupelo middle and high school students were invited to the National Bridge Challenge at AASHTO.

The AASHTO Bridge building Competition is a national competition for students to help promote an interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in the secondary schools across the United States.

This competition promotes math and science while introducing students to engineering through hands-on, real world applications.

Out of nine teams invited to the competition from across the country, five were from Mississippi, with four being from the Tupelo public school district.
