NETTLETON, Miss. (WTVA)- It's not often you see a mayor in the classroom, but one local official is hitting the books.
Mayor R.V. Adams is a graduate of the Certified Municipal Official course,
or C-M-O, offered by the state municipal league.
The C-M-O program requires graduates to take 60-hours of training throughout the year.
The mayor says the course is worthwhile especially for elected officials, because some may not have a lot of municipal experience when they are first elected.
"You have to take basic things. Like you have to take municipal law. This is dealing with the laws of the state that govern municipalities. You're talking about economics, community development, and things of this nature," the mayor said.
Adams says the course also covers training in basic financing.
The mayor was elected to fill the unexpired term of former Nettleton Mayor Brandon Presley.
Presley is now the Northern District Public Service Commissioner.
