TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Two members of the Tupelo Fire Department have joined the ranks in becoming certified in airport fire fighting.

Recently, the two members of Station Six completed a course in Pearl at the State Fire Academy.

The firefighters studied layouts of planes and airports and how to perform human extracation from planes.

Now, the Tupelo Fire Department has more manpower to provide assistance to the Tupelo Airport Authority in the event of an emergency.

"If they have a crash or if they have an aircraft in trouble coming in, they call us and we will send three engine companies and a full complement of you know chief officers and rescue," said Fire Chief Thomas Walker.

The Tupelo Fire Department now has over 15 firefighters who are certified in airport fire fighting.
