NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA)--An investigation is underway into what caused a Monday afternoon fire at a New Albany church.
The fire started inside a trash a barrel that was sitting outside a window near the First United Methodist Church Education Building.
Fire officials say the structure sustained smoke damage to the outside awning and a broken window.
"It was right outside the nursery room and no one was in there. There were a few workers at the building today. That's actually how the call got put in was one of the ladies that worked here made the call in. But, we arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire within just a matter of a few seconds, " said Chief Steve Coker of the New Albany Fire Department.
