NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Voters approved a referendum to allow liquor and wine sales within the New Albany city limits Tuesday night.

Officials with the Union County Circuit Clerk's office say the unofficial totals indicate 1,204, or 57 percent, voted in favor of liquor, while 905, or 43 percent, voted against.

The totals include absentee ballots, but not affadavit ballots.

Even though 25 affadavit ballots still remained uncounted at press time, officials said the results of those would not determine the outcome of the referendum.

New Albany residents voted in the sale of beer nearly three years ago.
