TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Halloween is just a few days away, but safety is a primary concern.

With that in mind, there are a few safety tips you should keep in mind, according to law enforcement officials, to make sure to trick or treaters enjoy a safe and happy evening.

"Out in the county, it's a lot different. We don't have a lot of street lights, a lot of two-lane roads. You know, parking is a problem with things like that. So what we encourage, you know, there's a lot of churches, there's a lot of fall festivals that have the trunk or treat where it's a more controlled environment," Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said. "There's not a lot of traffic. And you know, we encourage that. And the reason is for the safety of it."

Johnson says if you choose to go door-to-door, stay in familiar neighborhoods and watch out for traffic.

He also recommends wearing reflective costumes as well.

Be familiar with who is giving your child treats as well.
