JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The man who killed a Belmont police officer more than 35 years ago has died at the Mississippi State Penitentiary.
Marion Osborne died Tuesday, but the Mississippi Department of Corrections did not release that information until Thursday.
According to MDOC, the 58-year-old Osborne died of natural causes.
He was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in Tishomingo County Circuit Court of capital murder on April 14, 1978.
Patrolman Mickey Gene Johnson was only 20 years old when he was shot with his own weapon on December 1, 1977.
