VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) - Some north Mississippians learned more Thursday about keeping the nation's food supply safe.

Farmers, processing plant managers, feed suppliers and others met at the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center in Verona.

They focused on ways to keep their operations safe from intentional or accidental contamination that could affect the food supply.

Byron Williams with Mississippi State University said, "The overall food aspect is to increase food safety, reduce those threats to consumers and provide a safer food product."

Organizers say that the next few years will likely bring much tighter federal regulations on food supplies, which in turn, will affect everyone in the industry.
