IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) - At Mineral Springs Park in Iuka, it almost looked like a picture.

Several inches of snow covered the ground and sat on tree branches.

And it was the kind of snow.. that makes great snowmen.

Abby Adcock of Iuka said, "Momma was like, go build a snowman! Go build a snowman! And everybody was building one and the snow stuck really good, so...we were excited."

Nathan Hopkins added, "We usually don't get much snow around here. It usually don't stick very well so...I really wasn't expecting it this morning."

Down the street, we found another snowman under construction.

It was one so good, that a family passing by stopped to get their picture made with it.

Meantime, there was plenty of accidents for wrecker services to handle.

Lester Jones, of Lester's Wrecker Service, started receiving calls early Monday morning.

"Just people driving too fast. The first thing they do is hit the brakes, then they go off the road," said Jones.

Main streets in Iuka were mostly slush by midday.

Other less traveled roads still remained slick and dangerous.

A snow day means a slow day for one business owner we found, who was doing something you hardly ever see anybody do in this part of the world...shoveling snow.

"If I don't shovel it off it freezes. Then in the morning, it's solid ice," said Charles Sweeney, of Sweeny Auto Parts.

Early on, the WTVA Weather Authority predicted a colder and wetter than normal winter season.

So for folks like the ones in the Town of Tishomingo...just a few miles south of Iuka...and who got very little to nothing this time around...just wait.

There's still plenty of wintertime to go.
