TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a woman at the Lee County jail Sunday night.

Sheriff Jim Johnson tells WTVA.com the woman was found in her cell around 8:45 p.m.

Johnson says the woman was being held on charges of shoplifting in the city of Tupelo.

He says the woman was taken several prescription medications.

Johnson says jailers had gone to her cell to give her the medication shortly before her death, but she refused to take it.

An autopsy was performed and Johnson says the preliminary results show no signs of trauma.

The final autopsy report is not expected for several weeks.
