VERONA, Miss. (WTVA) -- Law enforcement in the state will be out in full force this holiday season.

The Verona Police Department has teamed up with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and officers from other counties to implement the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

Verona Police Chief Anthony Anderson held a press conference Friday that featured mothers who have lost children to drunk drivers.

He said his officers will be looking for those driving under the influence over the next couple of weeks.

"If you drink, you're taking a risk, it's rolling the dice," Chief Anderson said. "If we catch you, you're going to pay the ultimate sacrifice."

Chief Anderson said the federal government puts more money into increased patrols this time of year because it is more common for people to drink and drive during the holidays.
