MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WTVA) - Former Itawamba Community College basketball coach Kindle "Bud" Davis died Sunday at his home in Memphis after a brief illness.
Born in Tishomingo County on October 25, 1926, Davis coached the Indians from 1945 until he retired in 1962.
In his time as the head coach at ICC (then Itawamba Junior College), Davis led the Indians to five North Division championships, two state championships and two undefeated seasons. His undefeated teams (1960-61 and 1961-62) are known as the "Team of the Century".
Upon Bud's retirement, his twin brother, Windle "Buster" Davis, stepped in as the Indians' head coach.
The brothers were inducted into the ICC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
A special visitation for Kindle "Bud" Davis will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday in the lobby of the Davis Event Center in Fulton.
The Davis Event Center, which opened in 2008, is named after the Davis twins.
Davis was 86 years old.
