STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Saturday was the start of the third annual Race Against Hunger event.
More than 170 signed up for the barrel racing competition.
Proceeds from it go to African Children Outreach in Burundi and Rwanda.
Last year, the event raised $12,000 giving about 600 African children just over 40,000 meals.
The race's coordinator and founder, Patti Jo Higdon, said the event allowed people to enjoy their hobby while supporting a great cause.
"I have all kinds of volunteers," Higdon said. "They're all here. They're spending their own money to be here. They're not paid anything and they have worked not only this weekend but all the way up to preparing for the weekend."
