Group to study fundraising for new animal shelter

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society has hired an Arizona company to study fundraising for the organization.

Animal Shelter Fundraising specializes in helping animal welfare groups with raising money, marketing, and operations.

Executive Director Debbie Hood says a new animal shelter has been needed for years.

The currently facility has been in operations since 1995 and officials say it no longer meets the needs of the community.

A two-acre site on Cliff Gookin Boulevard near S. Thomas Street was donated for a new shelter in August of 2011, but fundraising is still underway for the construction.

The fundraising sturdy will look at the chance of raising the capital to fund the project and the ability to gain public support and community leadership for the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society.

Hood says they anticipate the studdy to be completed by the end of March.
