JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has awarded Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority a grant to continue its local waste tire collection program.

The $59,000 grant will assist with the collection of tires from small quantity generators of waste tires served by the TRSWMA.

Those businesses are located Calhoun, Lafayette, Lee, Itawamba, Pontotoc, Monroe, and Union Counties.

The money comes from a waste tire account funded by fees charges on the sale of every new motor vehicle tire.

MDEQ says the funds held with the proper disposal of waste tires.
