TIBBEE, Miss. (WTVA) -- A local solid waste group will get some state assistance to help dispose of hazardous waste.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has awarded the Golden Triangle Waste Management Authority a solid
waste assistance grant of $37,200 that will be used for a household hazardous waste collection project.

Among the items considered hazardous are paints, solvents, some household cleaners, tires, and appliances.

GTWMA holds an annual drop-off day each spring to help homeowners properly dispose of the items.

The landfill handles waste from Clay, Oktibbeha, Noxubee, and Webster County.
