Future of Post Offices discussed in hearings

WASHINGTON (WTVA) --     The U. S. Postal Service will hold public meetings in Mississippi and Alabama communities in the coming weeks to discuss the future of the post office in those towns.

The meetings will focus on whether to reduce operations at the facilities or possibly close them and consolidate the service with a nearby post offices.

On Monday, Greenwood Springs will be the topic of a 6 p.m. meeting at the Splunge Volunteer Fire Department.

On Tuesday, USPS officials will hold a public hearing on the Van Vleet Post Office at 6 p.m. at Van Vleet Volunteer Fire Department.

On Wednesday, Derma will be the suject of the hearing at 6 p.m. at Derma City Hall.

On Thursday, a meeting to discuss the Sherman Post Office at the Sherman Public Library at 6 p.m.

On December 6, postal officials will meet with residents in Ecru and Brilliant, Alabama to discuss the futures of their facilities.

The Ecru meeting will be held at Ecru Town Hall at 6 p.m.

The Brilliant, Alabama meeting will take place at State Bank and Trust at 6 p.m.
