MANTACHIE, Miss. (WTVA) — A Tennessee-based furniture manufacturer is working to open a plant in Mantachie next week.

Jackson Furniture Industries says it plans to produce stationary and reclining furniture at the old Washington Furniture/Townhouse Furniture site.

Spokesperson Amanda Jackson says the company plans on acquiring a second manufacturing site in Northeast Mississippi in the next 45 days. She did not release specifics on the other location.

For now, the company is holding off on saying the number of jobs it expects to create at the two sites.

That information is expected to be made public soon during a formal ceremony involving the Mississippi Development Authority.

Regardless, Mantachie Mayor Jeff Butler is excited about the plant coming to town.

Butler pointed out his community is one of a handful in Mississippi that generates revenue strictly from sales tax instead of sales and property taxes.
