Former policeman sentenced to prison time

GREENVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) _ A Former Corinth police officer who pleaded guilty last year following an investigation into the complaint he took money from people during traffic stops is heading to federal prison.

Jamie Brewer was sentenced Monday morning to 46 months during a hearing in U. S. District Court in Greenville.

He was also ordered to pay fines and restitution to the victims.

Brewer was indicted on nine counts of deprivations of rights under the color of law following an investigation by the FBI, but pleaded guilty to four counts.  

The first incident was reported to Corinth police in October of 2010.

Corinth police officials notified federal authorities after the complaint was filed.

Brewer will report to prison in October.
