BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Five people have been arrested and indicted in what Booneville authorities describe as a theft ring.
Booneville Police Detective Sergeant Greg Mitchell tells WTVA.com that the Prentiss Grand Jury Indictments are the result of a five to six month long investigation.
He says approximately $1 million worth of metal material was stolen from North American Pipe Incorporated in Booneville.
In a news release, police say some of the stolen material was located at a local scrap yard by police and company officials.
But, authorities say the majority of the metal had already been sold.
Police say some the metal weigh in excess of 4,000 pounds each.
Det. Sgt. Mitchell says that three of the suspects were found locally, while two others were located in Missouri.
The release states that all of those indicted had Booneville addresses.
Police say those charged in the case are Michael D. McNees, 27, of Jefferson Street, Jackie Z. Field, 29, of Bell Avenue, Jason Lee Smith, 34, of 81 CR 1210, David Michael Gauither, 30, of West Caldwell Road and John Vincent Shanks, 50, of Walker Avenue.
Police say McNees and Smith face five counts of Grand Larceny, Gauither and
Shanks face six counts of Grand Larceny and Field faces one count of Grand Larceny.
