SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- It remains a waiting game for Smithville School officials who want to move forward with plans to replace the tornado-ravaged K-12 facility.

Monroe County Schools SuperinTendent Scott Cantrell says they still await word from FEMA as well as the Mississippi Department of Archives and History before they can do anything at the site.

Cantrell says both FEMA and the state of Mississippi have an archives department and getting the two in the same room is a big challenge.

While he works to set up that meeting, FEMA is to publish a notice in the local newspaper requesting public input on the project.

The ad, which may appear this week, will give residents 21 days to respond.
