TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The controversy over the race for Lee County Election Commissioner 2nd District is now over.

County Administrator Sean Thompson told supervisors Monday morning Wayne Chrestman had made a decision to run for Tupelo city council.

Thompson says that disqualifies Chrestman from serving as election commissioner.

Chrestman served as the 2nd District Election Commissioner and qualified to seek reelection to the post.

The problem comes in that redistricting had moved Chrestman's home into the 3rd District.

Chrestman overwhelming won the race, but supervisors say he couldn't serve because he did not live in the district.
