OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -  Monday morning James Everett Dutschke was moved from the Lafayette County Jail to the federal building in Oxford.

There, he made his first court appearance after being arrested over the weekend at his Tupelo home.

Dutschke did not say much during his court appearance, unlike last week when he talked with reporters while the FBI searched his home.

While in court, Dutschke was shackled and appeared tense at times.

He shook his head no when charges were read against him which include having ricin and threatening and conspiring to use it.

Currently he has not been charged for sending the poison letters that were mailed to the president and others.

There were both local and national members of the media present for this hearing.

A federal judge refused to grant him bond after prosecutors said Dutschke is dangerous and a flight risk.

His preliminary hearing is Thursday in Oxford.
