LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - There is a group of students at Lafayette County High School who are enrolled in dual enrollment courses at their school.

College Biology and English Comp I are available.

The students say it's an exciting challenge.

Senior Piper Dunn said, "It's definitely different than high school courses. There are lectures, not as many notes, no study guides and you write papers."

Senior Mary King said, "I really like it because I feel like it's a taste of what's to come. It won't be so overwhelming freshman year to get everything together. We'll know what it's like."

Dual enrollment courses are offered at schools around the state. But there's something a bit different about the ones offered at Lafayette High.

At other public schools, there's rarely a community or senior college in their town which means the students might have to leave their school to take the college courses.

That's not so at Lafayette High.

Principal Patrick Robinson said, "We're very fortunate that we have teachers who are also instructors at the university and the local community college. We're able to offer the program here on campus."

One of the teachers says it's nice to see the high school students doing this type of work and succeeding.

Teacher Joshua Quong said, "Here it's really much more like the college setting. They take a semester class, three hours credit, and the rigor and the structure is still there."

The teacher says it's some of the best preparation for the college course work that's ahead for the students.
