JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Winston County man has lost his attempt to have the Mississippi County of Appeals rehear the appeal of his capital murder conviction.

J. C. Higginbotham, 33, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for the December 2007 shooting death of L. S. Vowell of McCool.

Higginbotham was among four people charged in connection with the man's death.

Authorities say Vowell, 71, was the target of a murder-for-hire.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals denied Higginbotham's appeal in earlier this year and were asked by his attorney to rehear his appeal.

On Tuesday, judges denied the the request to revisit their earlier decision.
