TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Tupelo City Council will vote on a proposed pay raise for the council and the mayor to be elected later this year.
During a special called meeting Monday afternoon, members agreed to a resolution to vote on the proposal at their Tuesday meeting.
WTVA's Caleb Story says the proposal would give the mayor and council a three percent pay increase each year from 2013 through 2017.
He says the city council hasn't had a pay increase in eight years.
The meeting was held because of a deadline to pass those measures.
Most of the council members appeared to be opposed to the proposal during the meeting.
The municipal elections will be held in June.
If passed, the raises would not go into affect until the new board is sworn in.
