TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — The Tupelo City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday to accept a bid to construct an aquatic center at Veterans Park.

Council President Fred Pitts says the $11,016,000 bid is by Murphy and Sons out of Southaven to do the work.

Tupelo Parks and Recreation Director Don Lewis says the City Council still must approve a contract before the project can begin.

He adds construction of the center could start around September 1.

In other action, the City Council voted 4-3 to approve a contract for foundation work on the new site of the Spain House.

It's being moved from Main Street to Mill Village.
