CORINTH, Miss. (AP) -- The Corinth Schools District has been awarded a federal physical education grant.
The Daily Corinthian reports the Carole M. White Physical Education Grant will bring $898,000 to the school system over three years.
Corinth is one of 56 districts awarded the grant by the Department of Education and the only Mississippi district.
Officials said the district will receive $409,066 this school year, with $150,000 to $200,000 going toward exercise equipment for fitness centers that can be used by students and teachers.
The grant requires the district to implement programs that help students progress toward meeting state standards for physical education, including programs on healthy eating habits.
