TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Smoke may be visible along the Natchez Trace Parkway Friday as a controlled fire burns at the Tupelo headquarters.
The parkway says smoke warning signs will be placed along the Parkway as a precaution during the burn.
Drivers are asked to turn on headlights and drive slowly when encountering smoke and to be cautious of park rangers, firefighting personnel and equipment along the roadway and mow line.
If visibility falls below 500 feet, the Parkway may be temporarily closed until smoke, which can be visible for several days, has cleared.
Prescribed fires are used to manage forests and grasslands along the Parkway.
