OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - If all goes as planned, students at Oxford High School will be attending a new school by January 2014.
Construction recently got underway on a brand new high school located about a mile and a half from the current school.
About 1,200 students in grades 9 through 12, and around 100 faculty and staff, are expected to move to the new school.
It's being funded by a bond referendum that passed in October 2010.
"The space and the infrastructure that lead to that space really was just inadequate. Our main focus in building a new school was instructional from the very beginning. We're proud of the instructional opportunities that are students will have once we get moved in," said Superintendent Brian Harvey.
All sports, with the exception of basketball and volleyball, will stay at the current campus.
There is a new performance gym being built at the new school.
