TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - City of Tupelo Chief Operations Officer Don Lewis is asking the city council to allow them to auction off items left in a vacant apartment complex.

He proposed the request at Tuesday's work session.

Lewis is requesting to auction the contents of the 112 units at the Azalea Garden Apartments, which were purchased by the city in April for a little more than $2 million.

Lewis said, "The contents of each unit will be sold individually to the highest bidder. All proceeds will go into the capital funds to offset past and future expenses of Azalea Gardens."

Any items left in the apartment are available for auction, which Lewis said includes things like refrigerators, light fixtures, cabinets, etc.

City employees and the city council cannot buy items.

The auction will be held June 21st, pending council approval.
