HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Two Chickasaw County men have been arrested following a high-speed chase and manhunt Wednesday morning.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson says a trooper stopped the men on Highway 389 near the Sparta community around 10:30 a.m.
They say when the trooper exited his cruiser and walked toward the stopped car, the driver sped away.
The chase turned down County 419 toward Woodland before ending on County Road 80 when the car ran into a tree.
Authorities say the driver and a passenger abandoned the car and fled into the woods.
The passenger in the car, Larondale Cory Jones, 28, of Houston was arrested about 15 minutes after the accident.
MHP troopers, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and Chickasaw County deputies searched the area for the driver, Reginold Richardson, 24, of Houston.
Richardson was arrested around 12:20 p.m. on Dixie Road in Clay County nearly three miles from the scene of the wreck.
Troopers say they believe Richardson ran from authorities because he was wanted for a parole violation.
Both men face numerous misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest and failure to comply with a law officer.
