FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Pontotoc man faces drug charges following a high speed chase through Itawamba County Sunday night.
Fulton Police Captain Brian Rogers says Shane Edward Lawrence, 18, is being held in the Itawamba County jail.
Rogers says officers were responding to a call about a vehicle driving eratically on Highway 78.
Officers met the car on Highway 25, and when they turned around to pull the car over, the driver sped away.
The chase wound through the city and the vehicle hit a tree and several mailboxes, losing a tire.
The driver made his way back to Highway 78 and headed west.
The Itawamba County Sheriff's Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol joined the pursuit and the driver exited on Fawn Grove Road.
He later turned down T. D. Way where he crashed at the end of the roadway.
Itawamba County sheriff's officials says when they attempted to take Lawrence into custody, he resisted arrested.
In the attempt to subdue him, Sheriff Chris Dickinson suffered a broken hand.
Lawrence is charged with felony eluding a law officer, possession of a controlled substance, and numerous misdemeanor traffic charges.
Authories say he may face further felony charges because the car he was driving was stolen from Pontotoc County.
