OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- CenterPoint Energy will begin the process of installing advanced metering technology for its natural gas customers, including Oxford.
The natural gas provider says the new technology will allow workers to gather the meter readings without exiting their work vehicle.
They will simple drive by the customers location and a reading device mounted in the company truck will get the reading from the meter.
CenterPoint officials say the change will allow one person to read up to 10,000 meters per day.
Itron, Incorporated will install two million meters in Arkansas and Mississippi by the end of 2015.
Currently, CenterPoint has 1.3 million advanced meters in service in Minnesota, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas.
