TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Local area cell phone companies are offering services during the storm aftermath in Mississippi.
AT&T says generators will be deployed in areas without power to keep work centers operational. Company crews are will begin repairs to the damage when power hazards are cleared.
AT&T urges customers to use text messaging when possible to free the network for emergency personnel. AT&T says they are experiencing a very heavy call volume on their cell network.
They say text messaging is the best option if a call is not getting through.
Verizon also has a crisis response team deployed in various places across Tupelo. Verizon mobile charging stations are also set up at The BancorpSouth Arena, Sleep Inn & Suites and Lowe’s Home Improvement to offer free charging of wireless phones from any wireless carrier, free access to the Internet, free phones for use on site, water and snacks.
Verizon also announced that it will waive coverage charges for voice, data and text use for the entire month of May for customers in impacted areas around Tupelo, Louisville, Starkville and Columbus. Overage charges will be waived in the following ZIP codes: 38801, 38803, 38804, 38805, 39339, 39759, 39760, 39762, 39701,39702 and 39705.
