TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - At the Renasant Bank branch on North Gloster Street Tuesday, it was back to business with customers coming and going.
Just one day before, policemen covered the parking lot and areas around the bank after a hold up.
Amy Britt from nearby Party Works said, "It was crazy out here. There were cops and dogs running around trying to find this guy."
Employees at nearby businesses like Party Works say officers were quick to alert them about what was going on.
Britt said, "She told us there had been a robbery and they were looking for the guy. She said to stay inside."
Across the street from the bank, one employee who was outside at the time of the robbery says he saw who he believes was the suspect leave the bank.
The store worked to make sure customers and employees stayed out of harm's way and that everyone stayed calm.
Miranda Thomas from Pier 1 Imports said, "We stayed pretty busy yesterday. We kept customers calm and kept on helping customers and going about what we was normally doing."
Both stores say they do have plans in place to protect both customers and employees during these types of emergencies.
All the businesses we talked to along North Gloster Street say it's important to remember this is overall a very safe area.
Thomas said, "Where we are at is busy all the time so you don't expect anything to happen."
Britt said, "I've worked here for seven years and this has never, ever happened."
They say it takes a lot of nerve for someone to rob a bank in such a congested area of town.
Thomas said, "That was kind of crazy!"
They say they're just glad there were no injuries in what was a very dangerous and anxious few moments.
