ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA)-- The company formerly known as Georgia Gulf in Aberdeen celebrated its 50th anniversary Friday.

The company is now known as Axial, following a merger of Georgia Gulf and the PPG Commodity Chemical Assets.

For 50 years, company officials say they have been a proud resident of Monroe County.

"It provides jobs for the people. We have several generations of people that have worked here, know people that have worked here," said Don Knittig, the plant manager.

The plant makes a variety of building products, and there are 145 employees.

One worker, Charlie Holcomb, was honored for working at the plant for 47 years.
