ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Monroe County Sheriff Department is warning residents to be aware of a phone scam.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says his department has received several reports of residents receiving calls from 876-429-2512.

The called ID shows the call as coming from Jamaica, and the caller will identify their company as “Carrier of Delivery Service”.

The caller will tell the person they have won a prize and need to pay shipping and handling to receive it.

Cantrell says most of the calls reported to his agency have been made to elderly residents.

He reminds residents they should never give out any personal information, including social security numbers and bank account information,  over the phone.

Cantrell asks anyone who received the calls to contact his department to make a report.
