FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Law enforcement officers have ended the search for three men in the Nita Lake Road area of Itawamba County.
Sheriff Chris Dickinson says deputies went door-to-door in the area to make sure everything and everyone was okay.
He says three men were in a car stopped by the Alabama Highway Patrol around 11:20 Friday morning.
When the trooper got out of his vehicle, the men sped away and a pursuit began.
The trooper abandoned the pursuit at the state line.
A short time later, a Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper came across the car on Highway 78 near Nita Lake Road in Itawamba County.
Authorities at first believed the man abandoned the car because of a mechanical issue and fled on foot.
Dickinson says after searching the vehicle and the area, he believes the men are no longer in the area.
He says they found marijuana residue in the trunk of the car.
Dickinson says he believes another vehicle may have been traveling with the group and they decided to abandon the one car and continue in the other.
